Winter's

Wondrous

Song

From out my window, I could see the creek Its ice, a satin ribbon on the snow Our winter holiday was just one week Each day with skates down to the creek we'd go Upon the birch trees, cardinals would rest Beneath them lay the prints of hungry deer For this was nature's turf and I, a guest, Enjoyed the first few months of each new year Today, upon a sandy beach I lie With memories of Northeast winter days It seems the years since then have just flashed by But winter's wondrous song in my heart plays Evoking thoughts of loves lost long ago Now resting 'neath a shawl of virgin snow

As sonnets go, this one is truly a rare gem. Closing verses as golden as golden can get my friend. Positively inspiring and gives me an idea to maybe compose a sonnet tonight. A fav and truly a very inspiring gift to have found today.. God bless.

Beautifully written and so well expressed. The imagery here is lovely and I could see children skating on the pond. Great write my friend. God Bless, JB Sorry I was away so long again. Was feeling ill and nausea for some time with dizzy spells. Finally the pain in my stomach was so bad I called in sick to work. Ended up in E.R. with ruptured appendix and bad stomach infection. Two weeks in hospital then home on total bed rest. Getting stronger now but almost didn't make it.

Thank you, Elaine. That's just how the creek looked from my bedroom window. Lights from a nearby interstate made the ice shine. It's so nice having you back on Soup. We all take breaks sometimes. Wouldn't it be great if Carrie and some of the others returned too? Hope you'll write for my next contest. I'll be offering a nice jewelry prize.

Maybe we should trade places like in the movie "The Holiday." I would love to spend some time in an area where snow falls and ice freezes for skaters. Best wishes for the new year, Carolyn
