Winds of Change
Somewhere in the distant dust - approaching
on the wings of winnowing winds at play
the elusive ever present moment
arrives upon the future's unformed clay
shaped by every touch of leaf and teardrop
honed by forgotten gusts, tempered by sun
etching on the face of youths tomorrow's
the dreams let go before they were begun.
And yet the crooked trees resist wind's will
cling still to crusted hope of sheltered lea
as eagles shriek above long furrowed scars
to taunt the wind in feigned belief they're free.
For the wind is wind and wind is motion
that it changes things a dreamless notion.
