Wildflowers and Tangled Memories
I can see you in the fading backroads of my mind
a bright, young wildflower like no other kind
captivated by a tune that only you could hear
a wild, wandering melody that flowed, oh so fair.
I was with you on those side streets as we played
lost in imaginary worlds where we would stay all day
always together, making up songs and tunes
and wearing mother’s floral hand sewn dresses, too.
Time chased our happy, carefree days away
weeds among the wildflowers caused you to stray
you followed a lonely path away from our happy garden
and I could not save you from your hidden burdens.
Echos of our youth, its music sounds so hollow
now in obscurity, our past lies in the shadows
oh, where are you now, as this silence replaces
your carefree laughter, voices lost in broken spaces.
