Wildflowers and Tangled Memories

I can see you in the fading backroads of my mind a bright, young wildflower like no other kind captivated by a tune that only you could hear a wild, wandering melody that flowed, oh so fair. I was with you on those side streets as we played lost in imaginary worlds where we would stay all day always together, making up songs and tunes and wearing mother’s floral hand sewn dresses, too. Time chased our happy, carefree days away weeds among the wildflowers caused you to stray you followed a lonely path away from our happy garden and I could not save you from your hidden burdens. Echos of our youth, its music sounds so hollow now in obscurity, our past lies in the shadows oh, where are you now, as this silence replaces your carefree laughter, voices lost in broken spaces. So sad, Laura, and it happens too often. We go down different paths, "time chased our happy, carefree days away..."Your poem spoke to my heart.

Dear Laura, beautiful melancholy spills so gracefully from your golden pen. I love the title and adore where your wistful wildflowers brought me. This reminds me of someone I once knew a long time ago and I too ask "oh, where are you now" to this day. Your vivid emotion and imagery brings me to every moment in this precious piece. Brilliant poetry, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Thank you, Susan, for taking the time to thoughtfully comment on this poem. It is actually a mostly true account of me and my sister, and unfortunately we are estranged over a significant family matter that we cannot resolve. It breaks my heart, and I pray often for her. She knows I still love her deeply…

Bittersweet memories of winding roads, wildflowers, honey hair, and the loss of carefree laughter. Hugs ~ Kim
