Why Take a Stand
Why take a stand?
Everyday she's tortured in silence
Isn't it funny how we ignore the violence?
A comment, a touch, an inappropriate stare
What difference does it make? Why should we care?
They say the eyes are the window to the soul
But you don't know the darkness, you can't see the hole
Of a little girl that was beaten by a man
Why should you care? Why take a stand?
A college girl once raped in a dorm
Why take a stand? After all, that's the norm
To talk to a woman however you please
To call her a whore, to call her a tease
What is the harm to throw advances her way?
What does it hurt at the end of the day?
"She liked it she wanted it", that's what they say
As they make more advances and find some more prey
"I was just kidding, it was just a joke!"
You don't know the feeling, you can't see the choke
Of the memories that she replays again in her head
All because of a look or maybe what you said
"All I was doing was trying get a piece!"
But that woman was a wife, a daughter, a niece
And what if every man was just like you?
What would you say? What would you do?
So why take a stand? Why should you care?
Because unfortunately, there's men like you everywhere!
This was a poem written to give a voice
But we all can make a change, we all have a choice
To treat each other the way that we should
Whether you're from suburbia, the country or the hood.
So think about the things you do and even what you say
After all ,what if the women in your life were treated that way?
