Why Is Love So Often Shadow

Why is love so often shadow Love not really love, apart, Lying in broken heart fallow Imagined in the aching heart, So full at the romantic start May I never be so deceived, That in naivete I believed Giving my all with none reserved, It was never what I perceived Certainly not what I deserved.

It is strange that "So full at the romantic start" love does this to us, fooling us.

Yes, it is strange, Caren, but such is the way of Cupid.

Milton I feel your hurt in this one. Yes we give our all and expect the same response and we are let down. It is painful to say the least. We learn move on and I think we become a little more protective of our heart, maybe transform our emotion of love to a less expectation, a reserve of expectation to lessen the hurt. One thing is for sure there is a change in us after such a heartfelt experience. Well written and a sad truth...

I applaud your effort in helping her. The good Samaritan you are.

Michael, this poem reflects the situation of a single woman I have been counseling who recently went through a terrible situation with a confidence man who used her, making her feel terribly ashamed, embarrassed, and incapable of sustaining a relationship. I'll help her get through this. She'll be fine, but right now she's having a rough time. For her, "It is painful to say the least."
