Why Do I Have to Clean My Room

WHY do I have to clean my room?

because I said so and I'm your mother.

Danny's mom cleans his room.

You are not Danny and I'm not his mother.
Everyone in THIS house keeps his OWN space neat and straight.
      It's your responsibility

It's neat enough for me.

You are NO judge of what's neat.
It's a health hazard; it smells like a zoo.

What smells?

To start with, take a sniff at your dirty clothes on the floor.

What if I just pick up my clothes?

That's a great first step towards cleaning,
bring them to the laundry room.
Then you can go back and finish the room

What if I clean my room tonight?

No, your brother has to sleep in there tonight

Who came up with that idea?

      Grandma's coming to visit.
She's sleeping in his room. He keeps HIS room clean.

Then he can help me clean?

      No way, get on it!
Then you can help HIM cut the grass before supper.

What's with the grass?

      Keep asking questions
I'll keep finding more things for you to do

Ha.... Ha! These are words passed between a son and his mother in every family, I think. I have two sons. One keeps his room meticulously clean and the other is rather clumsy. His room is a disorderly mess and he often makes excuses. Enjoyed these exchange of words between a mother and her son. Interesting poem.

This cracks me up. It sounds so familiar. I guess the same conversation happens everywhere.

David, glad you enjoyed my humor in experimenting with what Brian Strand spoke of in his notes - tenson conversation. You are so right - don't know of a mother (of boys) that hasn't had that kind of conversation
