Who's Minding the Store

Ever question why certin people ever win?
Sit atop that featured list.
Cause like roulette wheel the game is fixed
in case you havent guessed.

Its easy to rise to the top when own the site.
Raul, John, Micheal, it's the only way people
would praise anything you write.

Why slip in at night when ya take it out the
front door.
Makes question on on the soup who's
minding the store.

I comment on seventy poems a day.
I loved this write now what the hell did
I just say?

Your best friend wins every contest you host.
Must be nice holding that silver spoon.
Ya killed the voice but left his ghost.

Lets be nice and play fair.
Two faced jokes.
Snot nosed social club like anyone does care.

It's hard to play when ya dont even have a chance.
My words cut to the truth wanna test me.
Well fakes and fools lets dance.

You speak about depth but your fake smiles
show you hollow to the core.
Makes ya question in this game who's minding the store.

I liked Tim's comment regarding moving up the hot 100 list. I'm busting my knacks to try and get my poems read. Oh well! onwards and hopefully upwards. Sue's comments made me chuckle also, the Soup being stirred. The only way of knowing how the contests work is by creating one, and if the poets are not known until it's finalized, this does not stop people emailing each other their poems - and i doubt people would stoop that low, just to win a contest, but hey! it's a funny world out there,James

I can certainly see your frustration in this poem, Philip. John Heck is certainly a great writer and I hope you find others here who appreciate your work as well. By giving names, you have probably alienated some people. I agree with Sue's comments. There are some fair folks here who welcome new writers. And Constance is correct about contest sponsors not being given authors' names. Sometimes we run across the poems and know. It does make it hard to be fair, but we try. Take care, Carolyn

WOW !! You sure stirred up the Soup ... well thats a good thing ... makes for a spicier stew. And for a first timer you've gotten more comments than some of us that have been here for 3 years, so that should float your noodle ... smile ...

Mr. Morris...how dare you insult the people who judge these poetry contests? You intentionally posted your poem that was written out of envy! I have entered over 91 poetry contests, and I only have won one as fist place. You don't expect to win a contest with only one poem! If you think you got talent...enter more contests! Your remarks have hurt three decent ,honorable and terrific poets on this site.

Are you sure you are not trying to mask your latent feelings of inadequacy and skill in the craft? ~<><

If this is an example of your writing, well then, it is very easy to see why you do not win contests. For your information, when we, sponsor a contest, we do not know, who wrote the poem, until we finalize it. The poets you mentioned write from their hearts, and that is why they are loved, so instead of being bitter, why not work on improving your style and not blame others, read the winning poem, what about them made them win , try different styles. I know it hurts to not win.. I know

All poets you mentioned are outstanding writers. They've earned their recognition on their own. You need to rethink your perspective for it comes from a selfish point of view.If it was true I'd be 1st to admit but it's not. PS is the best poetry site on the net has earned its own reputation for being fair. A great workshop. It's appreciated by those who honor it as as a learning envirenment. Fair and honest critiques help us grow together amongst friends.I echo Catie Carol's sentiments.

So sorry you feel this way. One thing for certain these gentlemen are not the owners of the site and are not the only ones who get featured or win contests here at PoetrySoup. The three gentlemen you mentioned here are very exceptional writers. If you don't like the way you perceive things are being run here there is a little X in the right hand corner of this page you can click on and then you just don't come back. Wishing you the best in your writing endeavors and life. Love, Carol
