Who I Be

Poem: Who I Be
Edited by: Sparkle Jordan
written: August/2005
I will never forget
who I be
I go back
to the year 1621,
I am
a descendant of
William Tucker,
a black man
an African American -
I have seen
the vicious dogs
in the street's,
hunting for my flesh
like a
raw piece of meat -
I am
a black man
I know
who I be,
a survivor of
extreme brutality,
oppressed by ignorance
from those with
racial mentalities -
Yet,
still I breathe
in these
United States
Of America -
I know
who I be,
a black man
stolen from
the motherland,
shackled to slave ships,
bound for the new land -
Some of us were
drowned at sea,
fighting to be free,
and those of us
who made it through
were auctioned off
to white men.......
White men who
beat us with whips,
killed us
and raped our
black women
in there sleep -
I will never forget
who I be
A black man
an African American -
I am here,
My people
helped to
build this
country
through blood,
sweat,
and
tears -
You may
hate me,
You may
kill me,
but
I will survive -
I am
a black man
remember
who I be-
