White Supremacy, Part I
Now I just went into college,
and oh, how it opened my eyes,
showed me the microagressions,
the dog-whistles hidden inside.
And since I have a brown skin-tone
you should all listen carefully,
since so many things in this world
are built on white supremacy!
I noticed something driving home,
looking down as I drove the roads,
and the horrid sight I saw there
filled my oppressed mind with great woe.
Because if you haven’t noticed
the asphalt on our roads is black,
and then they go and paint white lines
directly on top of that!
The symbolism is quite clear,
white must always be above dark,
and they say stay within the white lines,
That’s how you’ll stay safe in your car!
that the ‘white’ way is what must work,
and the black must be trod upon,
to think I never realized this
when I was innocent and young.
As for yellow lines in the center,
you do not want to know, trust me.
I wish I’d seen that all out roads
Are made of white supremacy!
Another thin I saw that day
were those racist speed limit signs!
I can’t believe never before
did it occur to my poor mind
that the numbers that limit you,
that seek to oppress you at speed,
are black letters written on white,
it creates such anger in me!
The message that they send is clear,
it is blacks that restrain, hold back.
If the sign was just blank and white
society would race ahead fast.
They proclaim blacks just limit us,
but since they can’t say this out-right,
they sneak it into our road signs,
black-on-yellow, and black-on-white.
I must thank all my professors
for teaching me to truly see,
I say all these speed light signs
are naught but white supremacy!
CONCLUDES IN PART II.
