Foe the 'Light Hearted About Kids' Poetry Contest of Miranda Hawley

____________________________________________________________________

A long time ago when our first grandson was young - I think around the age five or six - there was a phone call we made to him to say hello and talk with him for kicks. We'd tried to make it short because of his attention span. He’s a kid who later became a not-too chatty young man! I felt surprised and a bit insulted (was talking to our grandson such a bore?) when he said very soon and matter-of-factly: “What am I still talking to you guys for?”

Andrea, at least he was honest. You have a keen sense of humor and seriousness in this one. A hard to achieve combination in poetry. A great story really. Smiles!!

thanks, this particular grandson is on the specrum for autism. The poor thing is 22 today and seems to be a "lost soul", so gloomy and with no direction in life. I used to write little poems about him when he was a tiny kid. After he got vaccinated at age 3, he changed a lot. Started stuttering and lost the pleasant personality he had before that age.

It's sad. The younger generation is losing respect for the elders. For grandparents, grandkids are always a pleasure and they even go to the very extreme to make them happy. But the response from them is disheartening. So, better not expect much from them. All we can do is to show them that we respect others, be they young or old. Enjoyed this slice from your life.

Awwn yes sometimes i dont blame the children, but who they interact with, where they pick somethings up from! Its sad what the world has become! I never would talk back to my parents especially my dad , and my grandma too , but maybe it is where i come from, we are taught to be respectful and to be kind to elders. Pleasure visiting you today! Best wishes

A poignant reminder of the value of respect and connection across generations seen in the poem and it advocates a more mindful approach to relationships with elders.A poem of the time and inspiring.

Andrea, Remember my parents saying "Kids these days.". I guess it's all relative. BTW, thanks for the reminder, need to tell them just how much they mean to me. -Richard

I was lucky to remember this one funny incident with out grandson. Today he is 21 and still living at home. It's really hard to have a conversation with him even now. We think he is a little bit on the autism spectrum. however, he is going to school for welding, and yes, he only wants a job where he does not have to interact with people. haha
