No– shadows do not love the angles of your face. Reflection in a cage; the mirror— enemy in atmosphere of age, no.. shadows do not love the smoother skin of youth. Your worries; furrow wears, a trench where troops retreat, —accumulated years. No! shadows do not love mascara and soft light; distracts from sense of time and wishes drowned in wells… damn clock’s incessant chime— no, shadows do not love the wrinkles and the lines. They etch your map their ink; topography of life where sun o’er valleys sink.

Gosh, I love this- it seems to make me think of the briefness of life itself, and how shadows still do not change. Amazing art- just beautiful

Hi Susan my dear dear friend, your poem reminds us of how the years pass but as my grandfather once said, who was also a poet, if i close my eyes my whole life flashes by in 5 minutes. I have never wished to be younger, but accept that the passage of time alters our looks, but I pay tribute to my life. I love how your poem faces the reality of life and it's aging consequences, but c'est la vie. Your astounding poetry I always relish reading - hugs, blessings, Jennifer.

Dearest Jennifer, my shing poetry sis, indeed, "c'est la vie." Your response to my poem is inspiring and is received with my truest appreciation. You're a natural woman, embracing time as it hones your being with its softened beauty and finesse. I feel the same way as you do, as we are connected in our philosophies on life, womanhood, motherhood, family and living in the moment. It's wonderful to know that your grandfather was a poet too.. it runs in the family, sweet talented poetess. Thank you for shining your lovely light upon my poem and my heart. I embrace you and your exquisite poetry. Warmest wishes and hugs sent across the sun spangled waves.. ~Susan

My Dearest Rhyme Time Friend, your rich words articulate the passage of time on our faces with profound and wistful images that flow so easily from your pen in a gentle stream. Love "damn clock's incessant chime!" Truly, time marches on in the ticking of a clock. What a wonderful metaphor. Your poetic magic leaves me breathless! If this is for a contest, best wishes for a win for it is a profound write. Sending you blessings not in "shadows" but in the grace of sunlight sweet poetry sis!

Gosh, that refrain is so powerful and made me feel so much dear sweet susan, poetic soul, your way with expressing is special and has an authentic vibe to it, which i truly admire and that line “ shadows do not love” made me think in so many different ways, powerful it is! Sometimes our biggest enemy is our reflection, what the mirror shows as time goes by we do not appreciate, topography of life and acceptance so well delivered here. It is always my pleasure reading your work.

Dear Daniel, it's always a great pleasure to find your thoughtful and meaningful comments gracing one of my poems. Indeed, our faces wear the impressions of life's journey upon our skin and in our facial expression. Shadows find their home within the furrows and grooves of aging skin - smooth youthful skin does not offer them such a cozy place to settle in. Thank you for sharing in the emotions of this piece with me. Your insightful thoughts are received with joy and appreciation. Warmest wishes my esteemed poet friend.. ~Susan

When I see some woman with her face all in color, long eyelashes and terrible lipstick color, I say she's old. Lovely ideas. Great poetic form.

Dear Victor, it's true that too much make-up can age a woman's face instead of enhancing its beauty. Terrible lipstick color is a big no-no! There's never an excuse for that. Thank you for your gracious visit and valued comments, my friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

To borrow from Frederic's comment, your poem exudes wisdom. Wisdom and timelessness. The shadows know no bounds...

Dear Sara, insightful poetess, welcoming the changes that come with age can be liberating, though I'd say it does takes practice to accept it all with grace. I'm pleased to know you like that particular verse.. I'm pretty fond of it too :) Your words have brought a smile to my face. Thank you for your kindness and for the grand honor of your fav. Warmest wishes and hugs my sweet friend.. ~Susan

Yes loved your poem Susan, shadows can be flattering when it comes to age They are kindest to my wrinkles and don't even highlight my greying hair, but I still have a complaint with the way shadows depict my shape !!!!!! Beaut poem, well thought out and written by the hand of a talented poet. From your "not so skinny" friend Wen
