Where Have All the Poets Gone

Why have all the poets gone, I’m just askin' Where have all the poets gone, I do not know Where have all the poets gone I miss almost everyone I wonder if they’ll return I wonder if they’ll return Where have all the poets gone, I’m just askin' Where have all the poets gone, where do they go Where have all the poets gone? Have trolls upset everyone Oh will they never learn Oh will they never learn Inspired by the song where have all the flowers gone. I've not seen soup so lack luster for such a long time, and sad to say nasty negative comments are still appearing on poems, no wonder people leave:-( 11/28/18

So much beauty and depth of your soul Jan in rendering a worry about beautiful and fine souls, fellow poets and friends.. Indeed, we are interdependent, we learn from eachother.. we add beauty.. we uplift, elate, honour and award.. We miss all of that when "these poets are gone"! A brilliant and heartfelt poem Jan! Congratulations on your POTD, an honour well deserved.. My deepest regards. Be blessed always.

I love your personal interpretation of this song, as I too wonder what has become of several poets who I still comment on their work but never ever hear from them! Congrats on p.o.t.d. Hugs // paul

Hello Dear Jan, Congratulations on the POTD honor!! Very Well-Deserved for sure!! The words and verses of your Lyric here speak truth to power. What you've mentioned has been resident in Poetry Soup ever since I joined this site during August 2014. It's very unfortunate and quite unprofessional. I hope the good poets who left come back eventually. Best Weekend Wishes, Gary

Nice one Jan! Poets will come and poets will go, but I think it's a case of many things. Probably too busy with their lives and just don't have as much time. Or discouragement from not getting comments on their poetry. I write because it makes me happy, if I don't get a comment, oh well. it's always nice to see a familiar face every so often, hope we keep seeing yours :) Congratulations on POTD. Hugs // Charlie xx

Hi, Jan. Congrats on POTD. Well deserved. I am one of the poets that come and go. I am back because I wanted to post a poem that gives my father credit for my interest in poetry. He has been gone for many years but he is my muse and inspiration. I don't really think that a lot of us who disappear are really missed so I don't think I'm letting anyone down by leaving for a while. I still come back to check on my favs although some have also left. So sad that my initial mentors are gone.

Huge congrats on this gem being awarded POTD my dear friend! You pose a great question but to many of us poetry still rests softly and with deep inspiration.

First of all congrats!! on POTD!! Jan...but I think there are still great poets here who are great people as well...especially the lady poets...exceptional talent with the warmest hearts you'll ever find...sorry men, poetesses first...it is very sad when anybody leaves the family...especially if you did Jan...it would be a sad day in paradise...and the trolls can #$#@#^&%$%$ themselves...^WW^

Congratulations, Jan! I, too, have missed people, but just thought no one posts forever. I started about 2-1/2 years ago and had good readership (in my mind) but then fewer and fewer. I thought it was my own less interesting writing.

Hi Jan, great poem...I find myself not here as much because of work and when I do look to relax with reading poetry the adverts are relentless on my phone. It kills the experience. Sometimes I can't even log on as they cover the Captcha box.

Congrats Jan, this is the best poem to choose for POTD and you deserve all of the credit. It's a shame that the Soup Admin don't really look in on these things or they might see how their site is dwindling quickly. Hopefully this being feature here will open some eyes and cause some more people to comment and interact, but I doubt it. Everything is hidden on this site and you know what they say, out of sight, out of mind. Sorry for the soapbox on your potd. Congrats again, I am proud of you.

Jan, first congratulations, on your deserving POTD honor. And does your poem ever ring true to me, so many poets are gone, one just has to look back on poems and comments to see the names no longer here, wonderful poets gone because of bullies, and some just disenchanted with the site ~

Clever poem, but sad too. I have been here a short time, but my poems are not getting comments,,though I comment on others. Some days I get no responses at all and end up feeling like I should leave. We poets have to do something...

I am one of those poets you speak about; I was so enthusiastic when I started over three years ago and the response was encouraging. However, recently I feel more invisible than ever with comments trickling in like a leaky faucet (it is not only this site but others, too). This has led me to not post as often or even visit the site less frequently. Don't know what can be done. Congrats on POTD.
