Where Are The Statesmen and Women?

(written by Ila Farrar-DiMino)

Where are citizens echoing
"Give me liberty, or give me death"?

Where is a statesman whose wisdom and courage
could cross a frozen Delaware to save an army and
a nation?

One declaring his signature boldly so a despot
was certain to see it?

Where is a statesman or woman whose integrity guides
his or her motives?

One who legislates for the National well-being, and not
for selfish personal gain?

Where is the statesman who lives and voices the spirit
of "This Hallowed Ground"?

Stands firm, placing honor before money and power?

Where is the statesman who lives by the principal "Of the
people, by the people, and for the people"?

One whose honor states "I don't agree with you, but I will
defend your right to say it!"?

God, give us statesmen!

Dear Joe, a powerful poem, we live now in a world that isnt as patriotic as before or willing to serve and fight for the nation as they did before, but so divided are all, unaware of the fact that at the end of the day we all are dreaming of one thing and want the same thing for everyone. Powerful write. I hear you especially in thr lines “One whose honor states "I don't agree with you, but I will defend your right to say it!"?” Soul hitting really! Wishing and praying for better days for all

Thank you, IE; my wife, Ila, is even more old school than I am. She writes from deep in her heart of truth, love, and patriotism. She would bow to no perceived wrong. So pleased you enjoyed this read. Ila is mostly a visual artist, but now and then will showcase her equal ability with a pen. I just thought this work was so inspiring that I needed to share the fine composition with my Soup friends.

My wife is old school -- Early American powder and steel. She grew up on a farm, hunted and fished with her father and mother, could shoot the eye out of a possum on the move. Kept me in line:) Blessings my friend.
