When You Were You, and I Was I
When you were you, and I was I
And starlight spilled from midnight sky
When sunlight flared and passion dared
We bathed in love, THAT you and I
When you were you, and I was I
And truth was truth and not a lie
When promise made was promise kept
We lived the dream, THAT you and I
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When you were true and love was new
And passion blessed like morning dew
When you professed your love would last
Who knew your words would prove untrue
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When you were you, and I was I
And kisses notes of lullaby
When love was deep and love was dear
We sailed the clouds, THAT you and I
When you were You, and I was I
And romance brought a deep felt sigh
When sweetest grace lit up your face
We danced all night, THAT you and I
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When you were true and love was new
And passion blessed like morning dew
When you professed your love would last
Who knew your words would prove untrue
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
When you were you, and I was I
Alas, Alas, do tell me why?
The pleasure’s gone, remains the sigh
THAT you has changed, and so must I
