When They Fly Away

WHEN THEY FLY AWAY
I built the nest for them to together stay, Kept it warm in the days of frost and cold, No storm could ever blow them away For I held them in my wings’ secure fold. They grew up under the wrap of love and care, Learned how to face life in their chosen way, The process, a source of parental pleasure Lasted till the time when they all flew away. The bond turned into frail strands of memory I keep in the few feathers they left for me, The residual time I spend weaving a tapestry, Their fading faces in its motif I long to see. A lone traveler of the twilight I secretly aspire When at the dark road’s dead end I‘d disappear Carrying cherished hope and dormant desire To live forever in their essence wherever they are.
