When Music Dies
“The Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost - They caught the last train for the coast
the day the music died, and they were singing Bye Bye Miss American Pie. . .”
From Don McLean’s “American Pie"
When Music Dies
How short was rock and roll’s time on this earth
as baby boomers’ kids grew up with mirth.
Three legends in a plane crash met their demise
at that era’s end . . . but new stars would arise.
Diverse was their music in those changing times.
Social themes resonated in their lyrics’ rhymes.
Yet through it all, the beat kept going on and on.
Even from abroad it came in this brand new dawn.
The 60’s generation also came and went,
but music only really dies when passion’s spent.
