When I Was a Lad
I remember back to when I was a lad
Standing next to a WW2 vet, my dad
We proudly belted out, 'O, Say can you see'
At every ball game, what a great time we had
Today I'm the only one left who still sings
Most fans on their phones or other things
Down on the field all the players take a knee
Brings a tear to my eye -- a tear that stings
Will life ever return to the way that it was
I doubt it greatly, mostly because
What's gone is gone; it ain't comin' back
The loss is quite real, it's America's
