When I Think About the Could-Have-Beens

I try to think about the could-have-beens, but few things come to me. It’s like I barely had a hand in my own destiny. I dreamed a lot while in my youth of love forever sweet, yet little effort did I make my perfect man to meet. I met someone and married him, but little did I know of the passion I’d imagined from daydreams long ago. I take paths that I've chosen with not much deliberation. I’m happy, yes, but maybe I’ve missed out on elation. June 29, 2021 for "A Broken Person Poetry Contest" of Faraz Ajmal

The past is past and cannot be changed. I agree with Jo. We have our choices and must move forwards. Hugs.

Great poem on what could-have-been, Andrea, I believe that God writes our destiny and whatever paths we choose is in His Omniscient plan:)

"If only"...or, perhaps, "why didn't I?" Many constantly go through this loop, Andrea, and it rarely amounts to more than a recreational past-time since we (most) are, indeed, where and with whom we choose. Remember the old Dr. Pangloss declaration (from Candide): "This is the best of all possible worlds." lol (Quite well written and I enjoyed it!)

Andrea, I can sure relate to this! I'm always wondering what would have happened if I'd done things differently. I enjoyed your poem! Blessings, Kim M

Well written ‘what if’ Andrea. But the grass is rarely greener... it’s just more grass. Terry

The dreams and the reality are two alternate universes that rarely intersect. Sometimes it gets hard to not dwell on the could-have-beens. Nicely worded, Andrea
