When I Think About the Could-Have-Beens
I try to think about the could-have-beens,
but few things come to me.
It’s like I barely had a hand
in my own destiny.
I dreamed a lot while in my youth
of love forever sweet,
yet little effort did I make
my perfect man to meet.
I met someone and married him,
but little did I know
of the passion I’d imagined
from daydreams long ago.
I take paths that I've chosen with
not much deliberation.
I’m happy, yes, but maybe I’ve
missed out on elation.
