When I close my eyes
And shut out the world momentarily
I admit it’s strange but I feel apprehensive
It’s a fear of being unable to return
I get a glimpse of that vast open inner world
That’s somehow an open door to infinity
And I’m somewhat afraid to lose my way
I can’t help but think it’s silly
Because I feel surprisingly safe
As I give in freely every night
When I lay my head to sleep
The difference may be that
I’m not visiting unexpectedly
I have that set nighttime rendez-vous
A longstanding arrangement
With guides and loved ones
All those from the other side
We meet though I have no recollection
But it’s an arrangement honored
Ever since I was merely a babe
