I wrote this poem the night before my before my mother-in-law passed away.  She knew her time was at hand, and I was so inspired by the grace with which this beautiful person accepted death.  This one's for you, Freddie...

In everyone’s life there comes a time when we know that our bell will soon chime, and the grim reaper will knock at our door, and summon us to follow where we’ve never gone before. Some will question why it is their time; it’s not really fair when life’s in its prime. Some will think of all the things they have missed, and rue the unchecked items on their bucket list. Some, who’ve been self-centered right from the start, will face this day with anger in their heart. Some will think of friends, who will feel much maligned, and feel great sorrow for being left behind. Some, whose lives have always been filled with greed, will regret leaving their riches behind, indeed. Some, who are sinners, will face the day with fear knowing their judgement will soon be here. But we as believers will welcome the day, having lived our lives in a Christian way. With our hearts and souls filled with His grace, we look forward to meeting our Maker face to face.

Thank you, Rhoda. This was the third poem I ever wrote. It was the week before Memorial Day last year. After reading it, Debbie and another good friend of mine covvinced me that I need to start writing poetry.

Truth my friend. Death comes and darkness falls. Oft the greatest sorrow is the leaving of ones beloved ones behind. And fear about their future without you being there to love and protect them.

Yes indeed. When we are young we never think about these things but as we age we tend to think ponder them much more...and write poems about them. Thanks for your thoughts, Robert.
