A Collaboration with Lin Lane.

The youthful memories I have did grate Upon my innermost self and I’d cry For my depressed spirit which longed to die And halt life tainted with anger and hate Yet now in a manic marvelous state Akin to alcohol’s euphoric high My heart’s core renewed can soar to the sky How this came to be I’ll try to relate I trapped thorny issues behind a gate Forgiveness has become a great ally Love found everyday gives reason to fly Like a balloon unencumbered with weight While able to breathe and greet each sunrise Living and giving seem like the best prize ***** Youth represents life of song to be sung Laughing out loud when memories are made But you wept as your spirit became frayed Though now you’re wiser than when you were young Having crossed the threshold of angst that clung See how clover's nectar can be arrayed Let your heart rejoice and not be afraid As delight comes from strands of pearls restrung The door's ajar—from the cage you've been sprung Take wing knowing happiness will not fade A heart’s compassion will never abrade Where you go now—no place is too far-flung Revel in moonlight and dawn's painted skies An attitude change has opened your eyes Lin, working with you is a pleasure and does bring a grand internal and external smile.

Dear Duke and Lin, How could it not be a great poem with this collaboration? I like how your poem moved me deeply. The honest journey from pain to forgiveness and the vivid sense of renewal really touched me. O how you captured the ache of memory and the lightness that comes with letting go. I felt the hope in every line and greeted each sunrise with gratitude. Thank you for sharing your hearts so openly-this truly touched mine. Spring Blessings, My Dear Lin and Duke, Daniel

Nice to see you writing a different form.. You have both done a brilliant collaboration and one that rhymes and flows so well and are two great sonnets... Your sonnet speaks about personal transformations and emotional healing in a most poetic way... Well done to the both of you

SO, thanks so much. It's apparent to me that forgiveness is a huge step in allowing oneself to enjoy the present. It is amazing to me how difficult a concept this is to actually put into practice. We're not able to change the past, but we can change our relationship to it with some effort and thought. Hope you are well and sending many smiles!!

Jan, thanks for the comment here. We had fun doing this and I discovered what a kind person Lin is. She's great! I was thinking I would be done with D.T., but he's still on my mind. I never really liked despotic kings. Neither did the authors of our constitution. So, I'll probably do some more on that. Just know, he will never be able to ruin my sense of joy just being here and living. Smiles!!

Thanks Paige. We'll just have to see what inspiration makes its way into this place. This was enjoyable to do and I hope people realize it's a recipe for enjoying this very short life we have the privilege of experiencing. Smiles!!

Thanks Tom...I'd like to relate something I noticed. When we submitted the poem to chat GPT, it returned a picture with a woman as the subject. I was laughing that even AI thinks that certain qualities generally reflect a woman's point of view. I personally don't like toxic masculinity and know that there are many men who appreciate cooperation and camaraderie. I think many do not, but hope that they can all discover their own path to happiness in life. Lin is a wonderful person to work with of course...you surely know that! Take care!!!

Gosh I don't think I have seen you write anything other than limericks . Amazing. Did you do one part while Lin did the other? Or did you do all of it as one? I feel like some parts of the top could be from Lin but possibly she did more of the bottom?

Thanks Andrea, I wrote the first one and Lin wrote the second. We reviewed each other's work and made a few suggestions and edits together as a result. In general, I wrote the top and she wrote the bottom. I'll check out your latest work shortly. Glad you stopped by and hope you enjoyed the read!!

Such poetic brilliance in your collaboration that flows so well together and highlights so many aspect of life and growing, and time, how we learn so much through experience from forgiving not just others but ourselves for angst and more that now seems locked away as thorns that arent welcome. I really love the lines "I trapped thorny issues behind a gate" and "See how clover's nectar can be arrayed" creative and soulfully moving and very sincere write! And your rhymes are sublime! Fave this is. Pleasure reading you both today! Sending you light dear linnersz and duke! Well done on your flawless collab

IE, Many thanks for this comment. It's not easy getting over things from the past that seem to trouble us, but when we can live in the present in a manner where the past doesn't interfere, then we're in a good place. Getting to that point is not easy but well worth the effort since the prize is happiness and smiling. Hope you are well.

What an amazing collaboration between two outstanding poets. This poem covers the path from despair to joy, focusing on human growth and the ability to change through forgiveness, love, and an open heart. It compares youth's anguish with the wisdom and enjoyment that might come from adulthood. The poem also recalls childhood memories of despair and rage before changing to manic pleasure and rejuvenation. It stresses the worth of overcoming previous traumas and approaching life with a positive outlook. I notably enjoy the rich and evocative language, which includes sensitive terms like "grate," "depressed," "forgiveness," "euphoric," and "anguish." This diction emphasizes the contrast between previous troubles and the current level of bliss. Blessings to Duke and Lin.

SP, you are very kind with your comment. We had a lot of fun putting these together and suggesting edits to each other's lines. We think we understand what we can do to maximize happiness and are trying to share the "magic formula" with the people here who read our work. It's clear there is a lot of suffering in this world, but also the means exists at least in our own lives to be "living the dream." Hope you are well and smiles!!!

Thank-you so much Anne-Lise. We know every day is precious, so why let past issues and negative feelings take away the joy we can feel? I have personally been low in mood for plenty of days, and I can say feeling good is much better. The right attitude can do much more than almost anything else. I'm feeling pretty lucky to know that this was always inside of me just waiting to come out. You express much joy in your poems and it's also much appreciated. Smiles!!
