What Was Going On In Her Home
During twenty-six years of teaching I have only met one student
who refused to draw a cartoon or picture of herself
I gave her the option of writing a poem, song or story about herself.
She did not pick up the pencil, but sat in silence, refusing to speak.
Was not compelled to do any work at all during that twenty minutes.
I attempted to coax words out of her, but she completely shut down.
I have often wondered what was gong on in her home.
She was pulled out of school a few weeks later to be home schooled.
None of us ever saw her again.
She would be thirty-four years old now if she survived.
