Many times, I've felt alone,
my life a leaf the wind has blown.
The ocean lies before me there.
I ask myself and stare,
What is solitude?
Is it a boy behind a tree,
hiding so that no one can see,
knowing he isn't like the rest,
in this world, living as a guest?
Could it be a teenage freak
unable to join in or speak,
now a nightmare, then a dream,
shouting a long silent scream?
Or an old man lying in bed,
forgotten by all, no life ahead?
The sea knows not it's being viewed
by a man who cannot conclude,
What is solitude?
