Notes About The Poem

My Worst Enemy Is… Poetry Contest. Sponsored by: Margarita Lillico

What Is My Worst Enemy?

My worst enemy could be, could it be a flea? What is the magical key? Do I need to make a plea? Let me sit and think as I drink some tea, under this fall pretty red leaf tree. My worst enemy could it be me? No way or I would flee. Now down on one knee, I will ask thee. My worst enemy could be, oh please set me free. Is it a huge crime? Wish it was as simple a rhyme. Can I buy it for a dime? Would you believe it is time? I need more time in each of my days, my time runs together as a big maze. Sometimes I only see a dark haze, please send me more time without any delays

Dear Paula, we lay our hands on too many things and run short of time. The time flying away from our grasp is one of our enemies. Enjoyed your playful and sweetly rhyming poem. All the best!

Wow!! Flea/s are not our friend/s for sure but sometimes our worst enemy is ourselves as you said. Thanks for sharing this contest entry with us, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. 👍✍️. Sara K.

A playful, conversational poem that uses its insistent questions and recurring rhymes to capture a surprisingly relatable frustration: time slipping away. The shift from whimsical possibilities—a flea, a magical key, a dime—to the darker “maze” and “haze” gives the ending genuine emotional weight
