Notes About The Poem

not a true sonnet but a Lawless Sonne.....

What happens when we use up all the words

What happens when we use up all the words
Tie up phrases to often spun
Sit in chairs while wondering
Why these spindly legs no longer run

Have we lost sight of visions dawn
Lost our souls amid a darkening day
Cursed the butterfly to fly alone
Believe the moment froze and so must stay

As far away a crayoned hand awakes
And on a crumpled page sees more than we
For everything is new and bright and fresh
For joy has found an open heart as nest

Are words but inert beings in life’s race
And we but weary poets giving chase

Congratulations John on POTD Interesting concept. Apparently the English language was invented to support the corporate creed Plenty of other languages such as Aramaic Jesus native language with many many words Blessings Douglas

I didn't know you could do that, use up ' all ' the words. As long as poetic thoughts linger, I think we'll be okay. This is very clever and creative. Congratulations John, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. : ) Hugs, Brandy

Congratulations John, a well deserved poem of the day. When a poet runs out of words, if they wait awhile they’ll come in herds… Beryl

Hello John, Congrats on POTD, Oh that cynical, heavy feeling we get as we age, where we stop seeing the "dawn" because we’re too busy analyzing the "darkening day." But then, that pivot to the "crayoned hand" is just perfecto. It’s a beautiful, slightly melancholy wake-up call for anyone who feels like they’re just going through the motions. Blessings, Daniel

We pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again! That’s what wordsmiths do and sometimes we even make up new ones by taking poetic license. Congratulations to you for your sonnet having been chosen as Poem of the Day, John.

John, amazing poem, I have been that broken poet at times and I am reminded of a quote, "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over it became a butterfly" I have no idea who wrote this but I find it very inspirational and a big Congratulations on receiving the POTD honor and this is FAV for me ~

i think they're safe as long as we gently redefine, and metaphor-ize them

That last couplet is as good as any I've ever read --- as good as Shakespeare's, Emily Dickinson's, Robert Frost's. S/b published, John. FAVE time. Thanks, gw
