what do you do at night

What do you do at night?
I think of Marie Antoinette,
I think of Gaëlle Catherine,
to Bernadette de Soubiroux,
But also to the Virgin Mary,

What do you do at night?
I think of Montreal,
I think of Manhattan,
I think of California,
But also to the Virgin Mary,

What do you do at night?
I wash my dishes,
I eat my cheese,
I think of the nectarines,
But also to the Virgin Mary,

What do you do at night?
Everything that is forbidden,
I think of Marie Antoinette,
I think of Gaëlle Catherine,
But also to the Virgin Mary.

As we go to sleep, a number of thoughts come crowding to our mind, mostly worldly things. But like you, I too think of Mother Mary as a hold a rosary and say Hail Mary till I fall asleep. I am not sure, if I focus my mind fully in it. But I continue doing it as a practice. Well done, dear Yaan.

I sleep mostly and when not sleeping try to go to sleep. LOL..I do have a lot of thoughts during those wake times. Maybe I need to think more about Jesus and it would sooth my mind and emotions. Sara K

You allow us to ponder each verse, developing our own thoughts. … I think of the nectarines, But also to the Virgin Mary. There is indeed an angst between our carnal & spiritual thoughts. You never disappoint.

A beautiful poem with great repetitions. Thank you for mentioning our Lady, whom I respect very much. My dreams are often macabre though.

There’s something haunting and oddly charming about this repetition—it lingers like a quiet prayer or confession in the dark. I really felt the strange balance between the mundane and the divine. Nicely done!
