I don't think that Chelsea would be a good candidate. We don't need more Clintons at this point. They are in it for the very rich even though they maintain they are not. I prefer someone like Elizabeth Warren. She's not perfect, but at least she has more of a heart.

Connie, you are most kind. They had a way of writing and singing songs that were a slice of life. Poets in effect. I wish you well. It is very cold here today, and we are hoping our pipes don't freeze. It's tough when it gets like this so I can only think of where you are and smile.

You are most kind. It means a lot coming from someone who writes with so much passion. We are in a box inside a box inside a box, etc. So, our path to freedom will take a long time and be difficult. It might be that we will never get there except within our own minds.

This one I like even though I don't know what song of Simon & Garfunkel you are referring ti :)

Debbie, try searching for We've Got a Groovy Thing Goin'. It's in their album Sounds of Silence. It's cute.

Laura, thank-you for everything. You are very, very kind, and hearing from you is a great pleasure. Your work intrudes on my consciousness in a delightful way. It helps me have a positive outlook on life. For that, I cannot thank you enough. May your life be blessed with happiness.

Richard, interesting question. I have heard that when you deal with him one on one, he is not such a bad guy. I really don't like his appeal that appears targeted at the fox news audience. There are few politicians talking about the root cause of the world's issues. To answer your question, I don't understand how he possibly could get the nomination, but stranger things have happened. Politics has been transformed by our media.

They were a great duo. Then, Art G decided to try an acting career. Now we are going to have an interesting competition for executive leadership of our country. I wonder--wonder who--is going to pull this off. The world needs some help. BTW, that is what I love about poetry and poets. We mostly seem to believe in love, peace and hope.

Hi Duke, (back for a second read) Yes, I love the song Cloudy... More, I love the Sound Of silence. What do you think of that sound? Hello, Darkness my old friend. :) Love SKAT

Yes Skat, it was the theme song for The Graduate (Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katherine Ross). S&G was hugely popular at the time. This song has an interesting feeling and sound that is unforgettable (I can hear the intro in my head just thinking about it). The two musicians had an unusual sound that was just very pleasing to the ear--and it still is for us. I will listen to it right now!!

I came to your page yesterday by clicking "READ" but this got bypassed... Nice to see loyal taxpayers taking the moral highground in a fun way, Duke. How about those who do the same but are the first to lap it up when they are the beneficiaries?:)

Kim, we know that there are a small number of extremely wealthy people with a lot of influence, and they have a cadre of political soldiers willing to work on their behalf. The rest of us are mostly at their mercy--and just hope they can leave us a few crumbs. Since there are many more middle class and poor folks than super rich, we should be able to take charge if we could get our act together.

They did after all. Hugs to you as well. Your poetry has had an impact on me. I hope you don't mind what I just commented on. There are a lot of us guys who have had crushes and wishes that could not be realized. Our unhappiness was never really about the girl. It was about us. Your work is such a gift--thank you with a big hug!!

Thanks, Viv. I just left you some comments of my own. You are just too funny. You have the ability to handle different kinds of spirits. That is a talent to be envied. The hammer drill gives an incite into how lucky you really are. Much better to get that than anything!! It could save you a lot of aggravation, and your knowledge of chemistry astounds. You have enabled me to start this day with a big smile.

Duke, you are a master at witty limericks, little gems you pen for us, with great whimsy but with a serious theme also, wonderful gift that I appreciate because I am terrible at limerick but give me a sad poem to write and I am in my place, a poet meant to write of sadness but once in a while I will write happy, just not often

Yes, you are the master of sadness. That I know. But the way you express it is so personal and poetic. It is something that just floats. Thank-you for this very kind comment. I will cry with you, but you have to laugh with me. I also give you permission to write happy, but only if you feel like it. Sad is always welcome--especially the way you do it. Your resilience astounds.

Yes, their arrogance is that great that I got out of bed at 3:00AM to jot this down. It was during a conversation with the wife about different kinds of people in this world who we run into. It's an allegory for all the nut jobs we are forced to work with in city life. Your work is a refreshing change, believe me yes. Although, you document your own funnies.
Date: 11/11/2015 8:02:00 PM
Terry, where I work we talk about the fact we're going to need sunblock 2,000,000! Yes, we are seeing the results of an exponential population curve on top of a culture that enables consumption to the max. Mother Earth is in tears. We can't squeeze water from a stone, and there is just so much denial. I don't have high hopes, but I also try to enjoy what I can every day. This site (including you) is one of the bright spots.

A society that destroys its environment for short term gain can thrive for a while, but then the debt must be paid.

It does seem as though we shall be a here for a short time only. I remember in 10th grade biology class, the teacher showed us how yeast in culture die as a result of the alcohol they produce. Since we are basically farming the whole planet and turning it into one big factory the future will be very exciting indeed. Stay tuned.

Duke, I have mixed degrees of 'hope'... I think I've heard, on average a species is around for about 100,000 years... then it either becomes extinct or moves to the next stage of its evolution... I have hope that our 'intelligence' is sufficient for the task, but maybe that's the problem... after all, it's the cockroach that has been around for about 300,000,000 years...

Anne, thanks very much. Hey, then you were around in 1965? Your poetry (which I just read) is a dynamite salute to the beauty and constancy of nature which our political and economic system is taking for granted. Time will reveal all.

Skat, we used to listen to S&G all the time. I like their song called Cloudy. Do you know it? Somehow, I could relate to the music and the stories they were telling. Meanwhile, today, we have a long line of bad characters waiting in the wings to take charge.
