Notes About The Poem

Weirdo

Declared an outcast, shunned by society - but she's the same as you and me, but You can't see her pain hidden behind her coy smile. You can't wipe away those tears, invisible to your shallow eyes. In fear she stares at the pavement, but she can see you stare. She can hear your giggles. She can feel your judgement. Her crime? Only that she is different. Freak is not her name, but you shout it, roaring like a lion. To you she looks peculiar and you wonder why she behaves strange. Her monotone words are a result of your ignorant mind that has lead to her indulging in esoteric tendencies. She may seem socially awkward, but she means no harm. She just wants to belong - for one soul to understand. There is no eye contact, because living can hurt. Misplaced in an oblivious world, the skies may look bright to you and me, but all she recognises is the darkness. The soul is deep like an ocean, but most only see the surface. Only a few dare to venture to the bottom - where most drown. Only the strong reemerge. The Silent One Simple Musings 24 October 2017

Hello Silent One, I feel so sorry for this woman in your poem. I feel badly she was put down just being the way she is{herself{ She can only be herself and no one else. Have a nice day my friend.

"There is no eye contact, because living can hurt." - best line! I also appreciate "the skies may look bright to you and me, but all she recognises is the darkness" Because I can relate to it on different phases of my life. You get used to the dark when you're in it so long. Last stanza is amazing! Great one. Always, Laura

Once upon a time I was that weirdo, not a freak just the fragile girl shy but wants to fit in. Only to be bullied! Not anymore for sure. I am stronger than their mean souls... Lol!

A strong, powerful and a true poem, Silent One, the desire to belong drives some people to do bizarre things..and most often we don't see beyond the bizarre to what they truly are inside...

Such a moving read SO. The essence of time...and empathy and the fast street lane has left us out of reach. Very emotional write. Exceptionally well delivered. Left me thinking...this is the world we live in. How many would actually have the courage and strength to help out? The world has become isolated. People chose to mind their peace. The lions bearing weapons? Who knows. My heart goes out for this soul. Emotional read. You are the best!

We are used to look superficially ... Our attitude is abysmally upsetting the others you have so powerfully penned about ... Great ...

This definitely reminds me of Aspbergers syndrome. Super intelligent yet socially inept to communicate well with others. Very well done SO. I have had personal friends with this and it is difficult for them. Unless they get quite inebriated.

A few people have said that.. It was more in regards to a goth character, who has become dark, due to judgement and trauma.. Thank you for your comment Kelli..

Once again, S-1, your free verse is beautiful and impactful...the topic handled with considerate understanding. Who are we to judge others....though very often we fall into the trap of doing so!! Regards // paul

An emotional and empathetic write Silent One, very strongly voicing the harsh reality of publicly judging, shunning and shaming of another individual. You have so poetically raised awareness on the cruel topic of bullying. Your last stanza is exceptional and insightful...Well done!

Wow! Emily does such an artistic, emotional and captivating rendition of one of my favorite songs... her voice is eerily beautiful and her performance fits the theme of your poem perfectly. A great video and song to accompany your awesome write.
