Wedding Crystal
Elegant clarity on display
encased in solid pecan protection
symbol of civility
ancestry
what could be.
Gifts sprung of union
impart refined grace to meals’
conversations.
Fragility to be filled
emptied
filled again
Toasting to health, wealth
and posterity
Sweet posterity
Gentle taps of cheers ring out
unless bumped too forcefully
and shatters of wine-soaked
red sharded teardrops
scatter and stain
drawing blood with each effort
to reconstruct
or at least clean up.
Handle with care
for ‘tis fitting to share
heirlooms with posterity.
