Such a beautiful sunny day so we went out for a drive We walked on a springy pink and purple heather carpet then foraged on the hedgerows bursting with bilberries whilst butterflies danced and swallows swept through the air Our pedometers showed our steps as we climbed the steep hill to the car Soon it was time to wend our way down the windy road home to our village … We’ve done this drive a thousand times before Suddenly a white car shot out from a driveway right in our path My hubby took evasive action so as not to crunch into the back of her car Whilst I muttered something totally unprintable under my breath! The old biddy continued on her way, she was totally oblivious to our presence! Was she distracted by her mobile phone or was her mind in a total fog But next time you get in the car my dear… give the wheel to your trusty guide dog! A true story of our morning 08-01-17

There are lots of loonies who drive Darren ... that's probably the reason I let hubby drive most of the time rather than me .. then there is one less lol:-) hugs Jan xx

I don't know why this double talk is happening of late...but the first code always says incorrect, so I put in the second and both show up. Please forgive any undue frustration this may cause...

Don't you just love all those "Blue Hairs" driving in your lane? My late mother, whom I taught to drive at 57, always had a knack for wanting to park in a spot too small for her car. I wonder whether it was worth the time and effort put in, but she was a determined woman when it came to driving. Big city, too, which made it more difficult. lt made it difficult, but at least she learned from the best! Thanks for reminding me of those times.

Bravo for your mother it goes to prove you are never to old to learn new skills - you must have been so proud she does sound like a very determined lady and you must be incredibly patient as teaching someone to drive is not an easy task!:-) hugs jan xx

that was a great ending, let her have the dog drive, he will do a better job. Don't you just hate when these kinds of things happen. They sure give us a scare!!!

It could have been a lot worse if a car has been coming the other way when my hubby had to swerve to avoid hitting her:-) hugs jan xx

They should prosecute more often for people caught using a mobile when driving - there is absolutely no need:-( hugs jan xx

I have had that happen one too many times. I'm just happy no one was hurt. As for the beginning of the poem beautiful imagery and then nearly soiled trousers. I hope the day is much better for you and your hubby.

Happens all too often. Reaction times can diminish with age Jan. Glad you were unscathed.

I agree Tim and know from being out when my dad drove how bad it can be when old age slows down the reaction in the end we had to tell him to stop ... I refused to get in the car with him it was that bad:-( hugs jan xx

Close call, but good defensive driving. My compliments to your hubby, and to you for writing of your experience. I'd be tempted to leave a "NICE" note on her door, since you know where she lives. I'm glad you're both ok.

So sorry you had an almost accident my friend! That would have been a real bummer if she had hit you! They are out there, driving like maniacs, with a cell phone stuck to their ears, just blabbing away unaware of the road in front or behind them! What a fabulous write to describe this mornings events! You have enlightened me yet again by your clever words! What a lovely and exceptional piece, Great Work!!

It was a lovely morning Russell and at least I got a poem out of it. I don't know what made her shoot out of the driveway but she really didn't have a clue we were there and my hubbies car is a 4 x 4 not a small beastie by any stretch of the imagination!:-) hugs jan xx
