Way Back When, and Now

There was a time, a long time back, when life had meaning, and love was not lacked. Daddy, and mother, working the fields, planning ahead, paying off their bills. Nothing in abundance, except us kids, but they never complained, no, they never did. Gardens of food, we all took part, canning, and drying, no food mart. Winters were slow, gathered around the fire, smells from the kitchen, bread rising higher. Wood stacked high, close to the house, dad brought it in, quiet as a mouse. Stories being read, until late at night, daddy, and mother, raising us right. Once upon a time, families were close, once upon a time, some will never know..
