Notes About The Poem

Premiere Contest WinnerWater Lilies at Sunset, 1914, Claude Monet

and if my heart is flawed ~
a muse-less manipulator,
it is because
it has known the murk
where nymphaea drift
through green grief
          of algae blooms,
yet still m e l t s
in mauve muteness
to feel love’s rhythm
in merciful melancholy,
whilst the air
ripples like fractured light
on a liquid edge
dreaming,
drawing
somewhere
between silence and sacredness,
as mind mimics migrating birds
blissfully bruised
but never broken...

for I am the essence
of an aquatic-blossom ~
soft yet strong ~
patience my pulse
kindness my dignified design,
when coldness finds
its cruel coherence...

O beloved,
feel me
beyond the sighing pond-mists.
I am your mirror
in shallow reflections,
interpreting your
quivering quietness
into unbreakable
laces of light
that float and breathe
as mindfulness
frames the placid pixels
in oil pigments ~
an aura of an artist
can refine to redefine,
where lilies linger
and the water reminisces
its own sun's
     luminous f l o w ...

"where nymphaea drift through green grief of algae blooms," -- wonderfully expressive! "O beloved, feel me beyond the sighing pond-mists. I am your mirror in shallow reflections," -- Wow! "interpreting your quivering quietness into unbreakable laces of light Outstanding." -- Poetry does not get better than this -- a Fav!

From the word Reflection, Inflect may be had, as in to inflect the perfect reflection of your pristine affection, I am not the water gloss of a patient pond, nor am I the spawn of lily love, Mind as Maker I am, the boundary and boundlessness of the beauty you build through skipping atop the surface of the crimson sunlight of your heart, where butterflies and beasts of desire guide one another into fields of open wonder...J.A.B. This poem is a master class of personification Poetess, bravo!

This poem is even lovelier than Monet's painting. Love the lines- 'interpreting your quivering quietness into unbreakable laces of light'. You always stand at a level much higher than the ordinary. 'I am the essence of an aquatic blossom, soft yet strong'. 'Bruised but not broken' The poem is full of such beautiful expressions. I can only exclaim 'Wow' in great wonderment. Congratulations on your first place win dear poet Queen.

Dear Empress, you’ve stepped inside the canvas and become the very medium Monet used to defy the dark. I was spellbound by the phrase "fractured light on a liquid edge." It perfectly captures that Impressionist tension, where reality is broken into thousand-shimmering-pieces. I think by defining yourself as an "aquatic-blossom," you’ve reclaimed the "green grief" of the pond and spun it into "unbreakable laces of light." I am enjoying your painted poems collection. Blessings, Empress, Daniel

As I read your tender lines, I had the thought that they come in so many colors... just like our emotions can take us from the white of happiness or the melancholia of mauve and blue. They can reflect our human feelings, or reflections as you so aptly described them. If only we could close our hearts and minds to our sorrow like lily blooms do at night, but I'm afraid even in our dreams, we're not free from grief that smothers us as algae does the beauty of the lily.

Ahh Monet deserves someone to write of his work who knows how to use colour! You've done that magnificently here - think I just fell in love with mauve and wanted to heal it! I love the line "between silence and sacredness" - such beauty you conjure with your words! Bringing all the magic of the painting and the mystique of a sunset together with emotional resonance :)
