Walking Away

Walking Away

I walked away today
Something has changed
My thoughts, my emotions have jolted to a halt.
I do not feel the same as I did yesterday

A wall of magnitude has completely blinded my view
To barricade the ones that have steadily darkened each hidden crevice
And to protect my tethered heart

Everyone has their breaking points
No more left to give
I have a new life to live!

The disappointment of what could have been
Is what aches me so poorly
And the grasping of hope of one day observing a better you...

The softness of my intentions have become solid and firm
Once upon a time, I promise I did care
But this cloak of a fool I will no longer wear

Each and every day I opened my door for you
Allowing you to walkthrough
Granting you access to my private domain
To which only a few have remained

Today the life you once knew is no more
As you watched me close my opened door

Walking away
Walking away
Walking away...from you

Very emotional...it expresses how another person took advantage and did not really appreciate the privilege of that deep access. Well done, Tammy, your poem is very instructive. Best Regards,

Excellent writing. The opening draws us in and gets right to the point. The ending fading and wistful... Especially liked the line "grasping of hope at one day observing a better you". Congratulations on POTW

"But this cloak of a fool, I will no longer wear" Such a tender thought. The heart is weak and fragile, and must be handled with care. This is beautiful and emotional, all at the same time. Congratulations Tammy, on Poem of the Week. ~ Brandy

Wow, Tammy, this newest one from you is filled with such emotion. I need to hunt down the one you read on Adam. Also, the other one you read at the end of the interview. Is it up here at Soup? I am so sorry for the death of your brother Samuel. My condolences.
