Wake Up

Wake Up Written By: Famekia Dingle Mothers straighten up get right, Don’t you know your daughters are in a fight? For their lives, their innocence, the purity of their souls, And you’re in the hair and nail salon getting ready for the club. These young women need to be taught, How to clean, to cook, to sew, To be the best women and someday mothers they can be. They need to be held and protected from this world that can be so cruel, And if they aren’t well prepared; Will chew them and sometimes swallow them whole. Fathers oh Fathers Wake up get off that couch and teach your sons to be men, Yes I did say MEN Let them know that everything that glitters isn’t gold and Every skirt that smiles isn’t a friend. Show them what being a man is all about Or are you all glued to the corner and the couch. Get out there and spend time with your sons, Help them to distinguish between the right and the wrong ones Prepare them for the world don’t hold back the truth, Let them know, make them understand our future lies with our youth. One day the mothers and fathers of this day will be gone, That leaves our children to carry on. What will they pass on and what will they teach? How to club hop and slang dope in the streets.
