Voice Poetry Contest

I take off my gloves, for I am warm All the while maintaining perfect form Appearances important, shop floor sheen Demonstrating interest, showing I'm keen But I'd love to just sit and stare Just for a moment, forget I'm there Not talk about meal prep or getting out stains Not stand up for hours ignoring ankle pains Not dressing for fashion, but dressing for me Forgetting expectations, just letting things be I dare not slouch or skip nightly cold cream Nothing is too much, I hold in the scream Polite conversation, I'm worn out already Rely on lipstick and blush to disguise I'm unsteady Moments to go and this journey is done I breathe, stay focussed as worker, wife and mum I have all the mod cons to make easy living But I still just feel all the time that I'm giving I'm grateful of course, we're living the dream Appearances are not always what they seem Picture 3 29th August 2023
