Visits from Heaven

Was it really you dad? Not merely just a dream, Your wisdom pouring forth to me, Oh dad, how real it seemed. You always knew so much dad, I so respected you. When they Said that you had cancer, I thought it was untrue. You were too strong to die dad, You fought with all your might, But Papa, how I long to dream Again, of you tonight. Tell me daddy, that it's true, That dream I had of me and you, Again, like old days, sitting there, Those silver strands within your hair. A crown of wisdom round your head And wisdom's spoke, those words you said. I know some dreams are only dreams, But dad, that seemed so real. A gift from heaven's angels, For my broken heart to heal. You were loved too much to die dad, And oh, I miss you so! So, visit me in dreams, Papa, Until my turn to go.

Anaya, as I read your comment I am in tears. I'm so deeply sorry for your loss, it is such a deep heartbreak to lose your dad. My prayers will be with you. I know since this is a recent loss for you, it is raw pain. My dad passed a long time ago, but it still hurts. I pray you are comforted with more dreams of your dad. Jennifer, your words are so beautiful, thank you. I miss my dad so much, and the dreams are deeply comforting to me. He gave us advice in his lifetime, and often his wisdom guided us through so many life situations, like buying a car or a new house. If he noticed something, like a gorgeous house with a great bargain price, he would go with us and look it over and he noticed and pointed out that place was eaten up by termites, oh goodness! We wouldn't have known but for his wisdom. When we found the perfect home, he looked over the contract, gave his blessing, and indeed, it was a blessing! The dream I am talking about here in this poem, he was sharing a deep concern as we contemplated a big life choice in our real life. Please tell me when you write your poem about your dad, soupmail me with that ok? Hugs to you <3

Thank you Joe, that is beautiful. I know that God knows the deep loss our family suffered in the death of our dad, and I believe in God's mercy to us and that He indeed blesses us with such precious gifts of the comforting dreams, visits from heaven. My dad didn't want to leave us, he loved us so much. I am comforted by the cloud of witnesses spoken of in the Bible, they cheer us on to finish our race in this life. God bless you too Joe, and I hope you and yours will be blessed during this Christmas season with all that is peaceful and beautiful.

Oh BJ this is quite marvellous and touching.. my Dad is still here (just) at 92 and we are entering a palliative phase as he slides away from us. There is nothing easy about it. In a sense, life becomes more precious & beautiful. Poets know about changing seasons of course & how, like in dreams, we can visit those halcyon memories where those we love can call back & dance with us in the fields of Summer once again. I look forward to that God-given comfort and may yours be frequent & joyful. Xx

Christopher, I'm glad that you have been able to be blessed with your dad for such a long time, how very precious. My dad passed away at sixty-seven after a five year battle with cancer, my mother passed away ten years ago about two weeks shy of her 91st birthday. She lived a long time, but it was still terrible, losing a parent is never easy. I pray the Lord blesses you and your dad and family with a peaceful and beautiful transition, My dad left us all with a beautiful gift that helped us to hold onto, his last word was "Victory." and he clasped his hands together in prayer. He wanted us to sing him to heaven, and so we did. We sang many of his favorite hymns, but he didn't want us to sing our favorite secular family songs, just songs of heaven. He left for heaven as we sang 'For Those Tears I Died (Jesus Said Come to the Water)'. He had never been a very religious man until he battled cancer. God used that time to bring him peace in the blessed Hope.

Those dreams are incredibly comforting, aren't they, I cannot help but feel like they are visits from heaven. Thank you for your congratulations and for your visit and comment, I have been so blessed by the honor. I honestly do feel like our parents, grandparents and loved ones are in our 'cloud of witnesses' watching over us, it is a comforting thought :)

Sara, your visit and comment is so very much appreciated, as well as encouraging. I miss my dad so much. I've had dreams of others who have passed on as well, one that I'd had after my mother passed away seemed as if she were trying to convey a message which I've pondered very much, our relationship was a difficult one. My sister Barbara had a dream that started out almost exactly as mine had, also of our mom, on the same night. We both felt she had visited. Now I dream of my sister sometimes, she passed away last year. I miss her dreadfully too. I love the comforting dreams.

Thank you so much Judy, I'm so blessed with your fave. I have to admit, after I wrote the poem, and tried to read it to my husband and later my kids, I couldn't get through it without crying. My dad has been gone for a long, long time, and yet, I still miss him terribly. Thank you for your visit and sweet comment my precious friend. I think of you and miss you. My father died 13 years ago on 15 November and regularly comes in my dreams.. an excellent choice for POTD.. Congratulations.

Isn't that so very comforting Silent One? I'm so glad you can relate. I miss my dad so much, but when I've had dreams of him I feel such comfort. My youngest biological daughter and a granddaughter were both born on his birthday. We sang Happy Birthday celebrating them, but one of my daughters suggested we sing to Grandpa first. During that birthday celebration, one of the balloons (with no helium in it!!) floated up to our vaulted ceiling! We were so blessed (well a couple people were startled, lol!!!). I think our loved ones know we love them, and they come to us in dreams, and in other ways to let us know, we are still loved by them. Thank you for your visit, comment and congratulations my dear friend :)

A big Congratulations on POTD! So heartfelt…embraceable! My sis called me one day and asked how I was…I gave a hearty great then she says you won’t be after I tell you… Not the best delivery to hear your mom has cancer. My brother was so hopeful… Hope died as soon as chemo ended. Early on mom visited in my dreams…from afar or in darkened shadows. Hugs ~ Kim (Fave)

Oh Kim, thank you! I'm sorry that you learned thiat your mother had cancer in such a hard way. I knew my dad wasn't doing too well. We were celebrating my parents anniversary and he kept having to leave the theater. He loved the movie 'Back to the Future' and seemed reminiscent of time passing, he wasn't usually sentimental. He went to a doctor soon after, and when I heard, I did not believe it, I refused to believe. When he passed, I was devastated. The whole thing was so surreal. I know you know how I feel. Hugs to you. I am glad you have had dreams from her as well. Here's to prayers you will be comforted with more, and your brother as well. Thank you for commenting. My dad has been gone a long, long time, he passed away over thirty-five years ago, but when I dream of him, it is as if it is a visit from heaven, and almost like a fresh loss. I so treasure those dreams that seem so much like a real visit, so comforting. I have never stopped missing my dad. I'm so glad to know that you treasure your dad and mom, they are priceless treasures to have :) My dad is forever tucked deeply into my heart, he is deeply missed. I know you know that. He once told me that he couldn't love you more if you were his own son, and that he was proud to call you his son. He is definitely still very missed! Thank you, Bill, for your sweet comment, visit, and congratulations. My Papa was such a dear. He worked so hard, and on the weekends when others would be relaxing, he was either working or building something. He built a lovely home for our family. He allowed me to help in with some smaller projects, like building a garage, sheds and his beautiful cabinetry. He was always busy. As a teen I finally was able to get to know him, because as a child he was always working overtime to provide for us. We were a big family. I am so blessed this poem was honored with POTD, I am so beyond blessed!
