Visionary

Twin drops of sweat
perched on his brow
Salt mines
the butcher's
blood-soaked smock
reeking knife
poised...
feverish to finish
the lady's order
his tear-stained chop
wide of the mark

I am reading it over and over; it somehow borders on Goth. There is something riveting, compelling and yet a teensy bit frightening.

That butcher is in serious need of a sweat band. I'd rather salt my own chops. How were these lines inspired, Gershon?

Ha, ha! Great idea, about needing a sweat band... I guess the NBA and the ATP are the furthest things from my mind these days... As for 'inspiration:' Thirty+ years ago I worked in a kosher butcher shop on Sundays, thinking that maybe I'd take over the business from the owner, who was retiring. So, I've kind of 'been there.' Woah! I have not words, so many images, feelings, even smells coming to mind, but no words I can settle on. That’d be some spectacular poetry. xomo

Gosh, sounds as if I've tickled someone's fancy here... Glad to be of some small service. Joy and Light, Gershon

"Salt mines"! Quite a host of images here, Gershon. Nicely done, with the imagination filling in the blanks ~ John
