Virtual Poetry

No matter how hard he may try, A poet can never fully capture the world "out there" And set it down in words on a page. "Out there" the world is real, Sensuous, And can be felt and touched. When a poet attempts to describe that world In language and words, The most he can ever really accomplish Is to reproduce it virtually… And at a distance.

The world is ever changing, and no two people see things the same way. All we can do 'is to reproduce it virtually.' Some profound words, my friend.

an interesting thought, jim! i guess that applies to anything written - you can describe the most delicious thing you ever ate but the best-written words can't come close to accomplishing what one taste will do...

You're right, Ilene...that's why having a good vocabulary...and/or owning a dictionary/thesaurus...comes in handy.

It is always difficult balancing the tangible and intangible.... a poet tries, some get close... some have their own way of doing it... nicely done Jim.

Ahhh but that's the beauty of it, because an able poet can use words in such a way that he/she can shape reality in any manner of one's choosing. Like what you do with your nursery rhyme takes

Thanks, Tom and I fully agree...but then, "shaped reality" is not actual reality...is it?
