Victims of Fate

‘My pen drips of sorrow and on this paper, I write each tear’
A Rambling Poet

My granddad was a sailor all his adult life,
But planned on staying on land after the war;
The village postman postponed his retirement for him.

On leave, my granndad was recalled:
A member of the ship’s crew had fallen sick,
And someone had to take his place.

The ship was sunk on New Year’s Eve:
HMS Bramble was lost with all hands.
My granddad died aged thirty-nine;
My gran a mother of two young children
And a widow at thirty-one. She remained alone
Till she died aged eighty-eight.

a very touching piece, so tender. thank you for commenting on drive-in theater memoires. this will probley be my last time to comment on everybody, if i can get through all of the other ones. my internet has been shuting down, sometimes for a day or two. the 27th will be my last day anyway. to busy packing for our move. so have a good one and thank you for your support. hope to be back someday soon.

OH my Gosh, truly one of the saddest in this whole category that i have read. So unfair, Jack!!! (no, I was never Miss anything. Even at my thinnest, I would never have qualified next to the girls with those stick bodies I see on tv)
