Vicious Cycle
It might still be some jet lag
But every night I crash
And from the couch into the bed
Too early I do dash.
So if at half past 7,
I’m deep inside a snooze,
By 1 a.m. or earlier
My brain has paid its dues.
I’m wide awake and simply can’t
Get back into a sleep.
I toss and turn while in my mind
All stressful thoughts do creep.
Until the sun comes up I try
Then just give up and read.
My day progresses as it should
But what is guaranteed…
Is that by 7:30
I’ll be fading super fast,
A vicious cycle which I hope
Will not much longer last.
