Urban Breakfast
The baby called; the mother came.
He’d barely time to squirm
Before she nosed around and did
Procure a slimy worm.
She plopped it in his waiting beak
And went to find another,
Providing for her offspring
Just like any other mother.
We watched them from the sidewalk
Of a New York City street,
A rarely-glimpsed scenario
Complete with pre-tech tweet.
