Unwilling

unwilling to toss
purple petals

though naturally
they drop

i don’t want to say goodbye
they’ve held me captivated
for a fortnight

from buds with sanguine leaves
proud with praise
to blossoming royal roses

though watered
autumn comes
like it does
for all terrestrials

winter tucks it into freeze frame
in the inner recesses of the mind
meaningful, yet
it dwarfs alongside the next periphery

i glance outside
to see the golden apogee
of late October

branches and boughs
still holding water

meaningful, yet…

Pensive autumn truth Kim. In the beauty of autumn, there is a melancholy song sung in the word "yet..." Congratulations on your win!

I like this one taking me through the seasons with the changes in the plants, shrubs and trees that surround us. Autumn has been rough this year with not enough rain but last night's rain was wonderful. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page with congratulations. I want to say congratulations on this winner. Way to go. Sara

Royal flowers suggest purple. Although they mocked Him, they put a purple cloak on him. Wonderful poem. Hugs and blessings.

Didn't your daughter give you purple roses on your birthday? Seems I recall that. You poem brings the fragile closing of Autumn and Winter's freezing touch too close. We are still in Autumn mode here but I feel the change in the air. Nice writing Kim.

This is a great poem, Kim. That was so wonderful your children sung Jesus Loves Me. That tells me how much a believer you are and also raising your children with God.
