*** Do any of you poets get discouraged when trying to share *** *** poetry with people? This allegory is for you, I feel your pain. *** So what do you do with a whole pot of coffee, you made for your family, now three days old? You thought they’d be thirsty. Yet each one too busy with life (or with work) put your coffee on hold. You know they’re partakers: each one has a mug with their grandkid’s cute face or fun saying on front. That coffee was fresh once and hot, but just sat there - you thinking it might be a drink they would want. Not one offered thanks, or a wink and a smile to let you know how they appreciate you. Instead you were left wondering if you were needed; if maybe your gift were an unpleasant brew. A week later, bringing a fresh pot to church, you discover they already have coffee there. Still wanting to pour some, you visit your neighbors - they aren’t coffee drinkers; Red Bull is their fare. You bring some to work, but you find your co-workers have brought their own coffee from Starbucks or home. No coffee partakers! A puzzling phenomenon; almost as though you had written a poem.

Thanks for sharing this... What matters most is that the coffee is doing its best for its very essence. The Lord is pleased with what we do according to His will. Thanks for your comments. God bless you.

Thank you, Beata, for this encouragement. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not men" (Col 3:23) God bless you, my friend ~ John

Hmmm... Fascinating and dazzling. This your coffee tale presents not only as a puzzle but also as a stimulator because right now, I am heading towards my boiler to make some hot water for coffee. Great poem.

haha. the ending is SO unique!! So you wrote this JUST for Brian? Did it win? I'm doing just horrible with him lately. ALL week long! I think maybe your friends and family are discreetly saying something about your coffee making skills. hahaha. Great job with the poem though.

Before I read, thanks so much for reading so many of my poems recently. Wish I could return the favor! I will read at least two or three of yours and then I'm going outside, hoping the sun is still out and not hiding behind a cloud. About Star Crossed. It was meant to be in the movie. I forgot if it was actually used inside the movie. I just can't think where else it might be located here at Soup. September I think was written AFTER my chapbook days, which is why it was not in any chapbook!

Unique theme for a poem and a lot could be read into this. My husband is super picky about his coffee, so he doesn't appreciate just any coffee. Remember before all the coffee stands, when coffee used to be so simple?

Juliet, I have a friend who is so particular about his coffee that he brought his french press on a weeklong backpacking trip just he could have "proper" coffee every morning! To each his own!

This one reflects so much on the worldly pleasures that are deemed necessary but leave us feeling lonely even when we are surrounded by the people we love. There's dilemma, pain along with the emotion of relief in one's abode represented by that wasted coffee. Hope you are doing well. Take care :)

One really hates to waste and coffee isn't cheap either. I no longer drink coffee. I have been a one cup at a time tea drinker for years now. At least you got a poem out of it! LOL. I enjoyed John. xxoo

You're probably much healthier for switching to tea, my friend! As for me, I still need that kick in the pants every morning!

I read somewhere you can poar old coffee into ice cube trays and freeze them, then use them to cool down hot coffee (I guess so it doesn't get diluted?) But I enjoyed your coffee poem, amusing slice of life-

Michelle, I did that once or twice, but found that I had permanently stained the plastic ice trays (they belonged to a friend at work... oops!) I guess if you had a tray dedicated to coffee cubes, that would make for some nice iced coffee in the summer! Thanks for the read, my friend. I was just now working on a soup mail to send you.
