Notes About The Poem

Unknown Answers- If Or When

This Spring's like one we've never known;
one which has kept us all alone-
away from work, away from friends,
away from schools and all that lends
to gatherings of people who
would like to share an hour or two
at restaurants- with food, good talk
and then, perhaps, a simple walk.
Six feet apart, we wear our masks
and hurry up to do small tasks.
This massive shutdown still proclaims-
no movies, concerts or sports games-
No grandkids can give hugs inside-
just waves from phones or cars they ride.

Though flowers bloom and grass is green
their beauty's lost in our new scene.
For sure, spring fever skips this year-
we stay indoors because of fear
to break the rules that law mandates
will keep us safe from deadly fates.
So many passed- we're sad, distraught
with pain this new pandemic brought.
This horrid virus did bestow
the loss of things we've come to know.
Those freedoms we had known are gone
and all's the same from dawn to dawn,
with unknown answers- if or when-
our lives will be the same again.
