Undivided

Pieces of history
We clutch to our chests
Life changing
Heartbreaking

Devastation

These events
Which seek to crush us
Do not
For they hold us together

Making us stronger

More firm are we
In our resolve
To be one nation
Under God

Indivisible

I'd like to believe that, however sometimes unfortunately it takes catastrophic situation for is to wake up and make some change in our life. Well written, Donna, I like that you have such strong belief in humanity. I believe God does too. Thanks for sharing and thank you for your nice comments on my poems. Love and blessings, Caroline.

One nation under God never sat well with me I have to admit.I see where you're coming from and I can tell your intentions are warm and caring.Somehow I always assumed if our nation lived under God's protective eye,did that mean other nations lacked this protection, ones we we're at war with?I prefer one planet under God, one solar system, galaxy,universe...all indivisible, all protected, all united in love, not divided by pointless fear. I am a dreamer but I'm not the only one;) great write Donna.

Interesting play on the pledge of allegiance Donna. Seems strange to me to play on the idea that we are in fact one undivided nation under God when one divide I can conjure up is the belief in God of which I know many who do not believe in the idea, though I admit no one here on PoetrySoup. Either way this is a splendid poem that really got me thinking. If you're curious, Bill Maher's movie 'Religulous' further develops my point...and then some. Thank you for sharing. -Yoni

Be careful. Although this is pleasing to millions, when a liberal hears it, they get offended. Excellent write. Vince

There is so much truth in this wise write, Donna. The Revolution, Civil War, race riots and many other events tried to tear our nation apart. But because we survived and learned from these events, "More firm we are." Indeed, they made us stronger. Excellent writing! Love, carolyn

In such devastation...even after several years have passed.....these comforting, hopeful words are still needed and help to remind us that we need to pull together united as a nation, ...and as a world. Love, Carrie
