Underwear, Me and Stand-Up Comedy

Underwear, Me and Stand Up Comedy

Nothing quite as truly embarrassing,
Other than standing in front of strangers
unconsciously undressing.

Imagine, if you will, being alone on a stage, doing a comedy act.
And you feel your underwear fall to your
ankles which was, indeed, a real fact.

Luckily I was wearing a long, black dress!
When I felt my winter underwear at my
ankles, I was in a state of distress!

Please don't ask me why!
But I just bent over and threw them over
my shoulder toward the sky.

The audience hysterically laughed,
At my most embarrassing costume gaffe!
And~~ I did not miss a beat.

What's one to do when the act is over?
I found them hanging on the bass drum.
I thanked the warm audience, and took them and a cab home for relief and cover.

This was a true event, in my days doing stand up comedy. One of the best  and happiest times of my life. Panagiota Romios

Haha what a thing to happen, but look on the bright side you must have lost weight. You were one brave lady to carry on. Tom

LOL...back to you. Jenish, this was not the first time strange and funny things happened to me. You are making me walk back in time to unbelievable events and you are making me laugh now! Thanks. I did get to be in one movie in my life as an extra. That was great fun. So was belly dancing. I wrote a poem on that! ))). Panagiota xx

I started comedy in Chicago at several places. In San Francisco at the Holy City Zoo. The underwear fiasco was at a cub outside of SF. I don't know if it's there anymore.havent been to that city in decades.glad you liked the poem. I was Very embrassed but the show must go on, right? Pants or no pants. ( yes I had panthyhose beneath them.,,it was a chilly night. Panagiota xx

LOL.It was uproarious. See my comments to Jan and Joe. I am so glad I did it. An audience does not scare me. I Could feel when I connected with them. It's such a rush! But my back was soaking wet when I was done. It's like going down a high mountain. At the bottom you are asked for your autograph, that is so very special. People said things to me, like, "I wish you were my neighbor!"That really touched me, Bob. Panagiota xx

Very funny! See, God knew what he was doing when he made you a Comedian and not a Handstand Instructor. I agree with what you said about bad-words; I don't think they add anything to an act. Great story.

Me, handstands? You are killing me~ I am a Klutz. Yes profanity is quite yucky. Especially, obscene women. Many of today's are obscene to the Max. I don't like comedians who insult the audience. Or those who make fun of handicapped people. How mean is that? I enjoyed my time at it. See my comment to Jan.Destructive comedy, angry comedy I was taught to not do. My mentors were Tom Dreeson and Tim Reid, they were the one and only black and white comedy duo and gentlemen to the max. Tim was on WKRP in Cincinatti. Tom is on late night shows and was the opening act for Sinatra. Tom launched The Comedy Store in LA. Thanks Joe..Panagiota xxoo

Oh my goodness was right. I was able to use that story in later acts. I had underwear fall to my ankles in SF in public on a Street. No long skirt. They were red with black stripes. Omg. It was a crowded day. I just picked them up and put them back on right there. I hand panty hose on, it was a breezy day. They were just a tad loose. I never wore them after that. I wonder why. Thank you Panagiota xxxooo

Pigeon...right on...one keeps playing the game despite anything. Cool about hubby. I did stand up in the years before stand up became so obnoxious and foul mouthed. We ere not allowed to say inappropriate words. Swearing was out. No attacking any groups was allowed. I had great teachers who ended up on TV or being opening acts for Sinatra, never heard either say one "bad" word. Panagiota xx
