Understand, Life Is Not All Sweet Bread and Roses

Quote:
"Without a knowledge of mythology much of the elegant literature
of our own language cannot be understood and appreciated."

Understand, Life Is Not All Sweet Bread And Roses

Yes we that write and boldly do so with deep dark
often fire our volleys, in verses bold and stark
using mythology and its heroes and beasts
hungry poets, we dare dine on fantastic feasts!

Walking through ancient castles, with deep murky moats
with courage swimming in our true poetic oats
Living dreams, splashing ink upon freer page
venting from heart, expelling vile from raging rage!

Yes, such is true, tis not for those of kinder stock
those of more timid fare, that such verses so shock
yet this poetic soul, its search, its true calling
must walk a truer path, else face its down falling!

Understand, life is not all sweet bread and roses
Should we ink it, only as honey-dip posies?

Oh, my dear, I see my pegasus eats your true poetic oats! Kick him out!) P.S.: Actually, it's true. I'm not the only one who comes here to soak up with your darkness of inspiration. The poetic oats! How could I stay not been soaked with such a beautiful metaphor? This is another outstanding sonnet about the essence of poetry. Bravo, maestro of darkness.

You're right, Robert. It's true from the first to the last word. The light and the darkness are two poet's wings. One wing won't take you far.

Thank you my friend. How else can we properly appreciate the light, the goodness we marvel at and the blessings we have-- if we hide from the truth about the darkness? Poets write--light or dark it is imperative to be true to self and true to the word given to others..

There is so much evil afoot and always has been. Turn on the news...the world is exploding tomorrow. It may end tomorrow? There won't be any water or food?? Watch people ignore each other and be afraid of intimacy. Poets see this, I think? Write on negativity....people run. Poetry is the balm of the soul for me.I spent my life being a doomsayer..I try to uplift people now. However, I have written on subjects people run from... love, Panagiota

Thank you my friend. Yes the evil- the dark exists in this world and should be fodder for poets if they so choose. One would likely be shocked if they knew how many famous poets wrote dark poetry. And by this I do not mean the occult, vulgar type.. First coming to mind is Edgar Allen Poe, celebrated for his dark poetry, his poetic genius, other writings etc..

"hungry poets, we dare dine on fantastic feasts!" - YES! This makes me hungry to dive into new waters, wondering what evil thing waits to gobble me up! Nice one!

Thank you my friend. As you dive in, swim with the understanding that the bias against dark poetry --too oft denies a very huge part of Poetry's history, and its famous poets that wrote dark poetry. For without Dark, we would not know the Blessing, the Glory, the Gift, the Love of Light, the Truth of human existence and even more.
