Understand: From the Viewpoint of An African American Man In the 1920's
The whiteman doesn’t understand
He doesn’t understand
the turmoil
the heartbreak
the pain
He does what he wants with no care
for the black man he calls slave
He needs to learn to understand
to understand the turmoil
the heartbreak
the pain
We can flee from the clutches
of the white man we call master
but we can never flee
from the everlasting pain
of the names he calls us
the heartbreak he causes us
and the lifetime he stole
He simply doesn’t understand
