Two Sparrows

When creatures fight, it’s often quite An unexpected thing. In fact, the sight just might invite Observers to the ring. Today, by chance, I got a glance Of sparrows on the ground. Their angry dance was not romance But fury quite profound. They’d alternate to aggravate Each other as they fought, To dominate or devastate, The outcome that they sought. With every peck on chest or neck They sharpened the attack, Without a speck of guilt to check If both would make it back. I couldn’t stay to see if they Would somehow call a truce, But that display was Nature’s way, Much more than Mother Goose.

A delightful rhyme reminds me of a nursery rhyme. I love bird watching in dog park's, parking lots, etc. but my favorite are the monarchs! I take the redline downtown and start walking through the city...they come from Mexico and fly north. You are completely surrounded by butterflies!

Great write! Birds are fierce, even the little ones! I had finches I had to separate due to fighting, my bud tells me nah they’ll work it out (we both have dogs) and I replied, no, they would fight to the death in a cage. I named my dog Sparrow, for his markings, sweetness and, his fierceness. ;) xomo

I was watching two robins do the self same thing this morning, Ilene. Couldn't decide wether they were fighting or flirting. As ever, a nicely observed write. Terry
