Two Silly Greatest Fears

A fear of the unknown is sometimes greater than the fear itself I have endured many operations yet, there are two procedures that really put the fear of god into me. I look at my feet and waiting for a twinge am inclined to pamper them slightly encourage the nails to behave because…. shivers run up my legs when I think about the small op for an ingrowing toenail. I end up in a cold sweat. Secondly, please I pray Don’t ever let me need a Cataract removed, the thought of a needle, coming towards my eyes makes me nearly want to wee. Call me a wimp, I will hold my hands up.. saying “Yes I am” Penned 27 Sept. 2016

I'll hold up my hand, too, Seren. Especially the needle in the eye thing. I know thousands of people have cataract surgery, but the thought of it puts fear in me. My husband had the ingrown toenail surgery and has said he would never do it again. Great write! Love, Kim

I'm procrastinating, have been for years, on an eye surgery I need. Jan, is right - from past laser surgery, I know they give one a Valium before squeezing on the socket clamp and administering whatever they give for pain. The good news is that if we surrender our eyes for just a few moments, we can have great vision for many years! I fear the needle, but know I can handle it. My Mom had donated cataracts put in, lots of needle there!, but says it was quick and forgettable. Hope that helps.

I am with Tim on the being alone thing. As far as needles to the eyes, my mom gets shots directly into her eyeballs, as she is nearly blind. She says they are not painful. Just thinking about it makes me want to heave. Great poem, Seren. Anytime you can get people to talking after reading your poem, you have written a winner!

We all need a little push or someone by our side to conquer our fears. I am a little fearful of heights but when I was down in the Bahamas I gained the courage to do the flying trapeze with a beach circus to impress my gf at the time. The needle thingy seems scary. My biggest fear is growing old alone. But I'm sure that won't happen with all my kids.

I don't think I could face the needle towards the eye jobbie Seren - they would have to sedate me and use a clamp to keep my eyelids prised open - eww just the thought sends shivers down my spine:-( hugs Jan xx

Haha, Trust me you don't fell a thing, I've had steel filings removed from my eyes by a needle, the hardest thing is keeping the eyes open. Nice job. /|\
